Terms Update Summary: June 2026

Summary of what’s changing

We’ve included a high-level overview of the changes to our Terms of Service and the introduction of our AI Services Addendum below.

This update includes two parts: changes to the Terms of Service that apply to all customers, and the new AI Services Addendum that governs AI features specifically.

Terms of Service Changes

Applicability and effective date

Linear has updated its Terms of Service and added an AI Services Addendum. For existing customers, the new terms will apply as of July 11, 2026. Users may also opt-in to them sooner upon usage of coding sessions and metered AI services.

New indemnification protections

The updated Terms introduce indemnification protections for both parties. Linear will defend you against third-party claims that the Service infringes their intellectual property rights, including patents, copyrights, and trademarks. In turn, customers take on reciprocal obligations for third-party claims arising from their user submissions.

Liability caps are now mutual

Previously, the liability limits in the Terms applied only to Linear. The updated Terms apply the same caps to both parties.

Carve-outs to liability limits

The standard liability caps do not apply in cases of gross negligence, willful misconduct, or fraud by either party. They also do not apply to indemnification obligations or to claims arising from a customer's breach of the use restrictions.

AI Services Addendum

What AI Services are

AI Services covers any Linear feature powered by generative or predictive AI, including features where Linear calls a third-party AI model on your behalf. Some AI Services are designated as metered AI services and billed on a usage basis, measured in credits. Currently, coding sessions is the only metered AI service.

Credits and usage-based billing

We're introducing credits as the unit of measurement for metered AI services. Credits are denominated in U.S. dollars and are fungible across all metered AI services within your workspace. Credits are pooled at the workspace level, so all users in a workspace draw from the same balance. Pricing, conversion rates, and the current list of metered AI services are published on the Pricing Page. Please see the updated AI Services Addendum for more information on credit expiration terms.

Your data and model training

Your data is yours. Prompts and outputs are treated as your customer data and your confidential information. Linear will not use your data to train its own AI models. Linear's agreements with third-party AI model providers prohibit them from using your data for model training. Where supported by the applicable model provider, Linear requires zero-data-retention processing.

Model flexibility

We continuously evaluate the AI models powering Linear to make sure you're getting the best performance and capabilities available. This means we may add, remove, or substitute models over time. Different models may consume credits at different rates.

Questions
